New York Comic Con 2013

This year I went to New York Comic Con with Marlee, I've wanted to go for years but never had a chance. It was amazing and so much fun, by the end of the weekend I was tired and exhausted but I would go again in a heartbeat. Over the course of the couple days I went I meet some amazing people and had a lot of fun with my girlfriend.

Friday was a long day filled with meeting some people I always wanted to meet. For starters I got to meet Nicholas Briggs the voice of the Daleks and Cyberman on Doctor Who. He was nice and signed a poster of the Daleks for me, he even joked about painting each one himself. I also got to meet David Lloyd, the illustrator of the V for Vendetta graphic novel. He seemed to be tired by the time I meet him, Marlee mentioned smelling wine, still a very nice guy and he talked about the detail he put into the faces in the graphic novel to make them look as real as possible.

We also went to a panel with BJ Novak about his new collection of short stories that is being released in February of next year. The stories are all different lengths and the ones he read to the audience were hilarious. After the panel we were able to get a copy of some of the short stories for free and have it signed by BJ. Marlee was so excited to meet him she was shaking, he was super friendly and even signed an extra copy for her mom because she loves him on The Office. To cap off a busy Friday we went and saw Book of Mormon. It was so funny and so well done. You can see why it sells out all the time.

Saturday was filled with some great surprises, we went to the Cyanide and Happiness booth. The guys there would sign and illustrate a drawing for you on the fly based on suggestions from you or a box they had filled with random words. It was fun to see them draw random comics on the fly, I asked the one guy to draw Marlee and myself but wasn't sure what the setting would be. So I picked two random words out of the box, shark and tuna fish. The resulting image is hilarious as you can see below.

When they signed my comic book they asked me how I spelled my name so I told them it's spelled like the religion. I didn't realize till Marlee pointed it out to me, that he decided that my book would now be dedicated to all Christians. That made me laugh so much and it showed how hilarious those guys are in real life.

Saturday was an amazing day, and it couldn't have gotten better in anyway, but somehow it did. As we were walking out to head back to the hotel I stopped to look at a pumpkin chunking machine that was on display. Every year Science Channel does a special about the massive Pumpkin chunking festival in Delaware with the build team from Mythbusters. The build team had been in NYC to do a panel on the show, as I was looking I notice that Grant was there. It was real quiet around him and I got super nervous because I wanted to say hi but was too scared eventually I got his attention. He was so nice and very friendly to talk to. Marlee can attest to how nervous I was to talk to him. Meeting him was the final piece that made this whole comic con amazing. It really was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time.
